My Sighting
posted by James Beaman beaman67@yahoo.com on May 5, 2009
I Live in the small town of Dayton Texas in Liberty County. It was about 01:00 am on May 2nd, I walked out my back door to try and scare a couple racoons off of my front porch. When I got about half way to the front porch I saw some movement in the middle of the back yard. There was a little bit of light coming from the carport and I thought it was just one of the neighbors cats, but when I got a little closer it made this extremely loud noise that I can only describe as a mix between a monkey and a cat. At this point I shined my flashlight on it, it's eyes were facing me so I could not see it's profile. The body was longer than a cats and it's tail was extremely long and it's legs were very short. I moved a little closer and it made that same weird noise and ran off into the field. It kept making that same call for about 10 minutes as it got further away, but I also heard another call coming from the opposite end of the field. When I told my wife what I saw she said it was probaly a jaguarundi, she said a friend of ours saw the same thing about 2 years ago in her backyard. The next morning I looked up jaguarundi on the internet and the first picture that came up was exactly what I saw. My house is in town, but very close to the Trinty river and since we had alot of rain this past week I think they were trying to escape the flood waters. I will be setting up a couple of game cameras this week to try and get a picture, but I bet all I get is pictures of the neighbors cats. If I do get any pictures I will submit them.
