This took place on April 20, 1987 on Loon Lake in Wixom, MI. A police report was made at the time of the sighting, followed by an article in the Detroit Free Press on April 24 and 25. At around 11pm I heard splashing sounds down near the lake, about a hundred feet from my house. My dog was going crazy in the house - hair on his neck standing straight up. I turned on the floodlights and walked down to the water's edge, seeing glowing eyes looking back at me from within the reeds and cattails about 30 feet away. I started walking along the shore to try to get a better look and the eyes followed me along, almost like stalking. When the eyes came close to the edge of the water on the other side of the narrow canal, I could now see a large, black animal about 4 to 5 feet long. It appeared to look like a catlike creature. I turned and slowly walked back up to the house where I called the police and reported it. They came out and did a report but were very skeptical at what I described. Later that week the police chief called and said he saw the black panther that morning on his property. He made a postive ID with binoculars and told me he totally believed what I saw that night was a black panther. Several other sightings occurred in that area in the months that followed. |
