Monday, May 5 2008 - I was driving with my wife on a back country road near Ashburn, GA (I believe it was highway 32 for anybody familiar with the area). It was about dusk, and all the sudden a very large cat walked out of the brush next to the road and jogged across the road. It was very close (almost hit it) and we both got a good look at it. It looked pretty much similar to a house cat or feral cat, but was way too big to be a house cat. I would say it stood at least 2 feet tall and was a good 50 lbs, skinny, muscular, and dark in color. It wasnt a solid black or brown, more like "brindle" as used to describe dogs such as pit bulls. It moved just like a puma or something but wasnt as fluffy as a puma usually is (it had short hair). Also, my wife says it had a long tail. I think it did, but cant specifially remember the tail. Anyways, that would rule out Bobcat. Also, it didnt really look young. I say that only because it was skinny and muscular and didnt have any of the "baby fat" or fluffy fur of an adolescent animal.
Anybody have any ideas? If feral cats can get this big, then thats probably what it was, but I've NEVER seen a domestic cat nearly that large. I've looked around on the internet and havent really seen anything too similar. And trust me, we got a good look at it. It wasnt a dog or anything like that. It was definetely some kind of cat. |
