Sighting: May 26th, 2007
Where: Near Gee Point, outside Concrete, WA
Leaving the deep woods yesterday, my friend and I came around a blind corner and witnessed what we thought was a large brown coyote deficating in the road. we slowed our vehicle to a crawl, and got a good long look at this animal, who met our stare, but was not intimated by our vehicle. It moved 10 feet from the road and watched us. After discussing what this creature could have been, the closest description I could find was the Cascade Wolf, thought to be extinct since 1940. There is only ONE image of this wolf that I was able to find online, and it had a dark/black face. The animal we saw did not have a dark face. Instead, it's face was consistant with the color of the rest of it's body with a light-colored (cream?) neck and underside. However, I am aware that there are deviations between color/markings even in the same pack.
Description:
Female, 30 - 35 inches high at the shoulder, approx. 70 lbs. Slender appearance, brown/tawny in color. Feces contained hair and bone waste (we saw much of the same near our campsite).
Any more help with this sighting would be appreciated. Thanks. |
