I saw a strange looking dog while exploring and looking around out near Boise, Idaho. It was out in the desert near some cattle. I was up on top of a mesa like area on a dirt road. I first caught site of this creature when it crossed about 50ft in front of my truck. I noticed it right away and I wondered what it was. It was black in color with light brown spots and it was like no other dog that I have ever seen. As this creature crossed the road and crouched down behind some sagebrush and was watching me. I got my binoculars out and began watching him to see what he was doing and then he began going about his business watching some cattle grazing on the plain down below. I had the impression he was hunting but I didnt see him approach the cattle. The only way to describe this creature was that it reminded me of a cross with a dog and a hyena. It was much taller than a hyena though and the tail wasnt bushy. It had the build of a dog and it stood at about 3.5-4 feet. It was much taller than most dogs than I have come across. It didnt seem to be aggressive and I wasn't afraid of it. He did keep his distance though and seemed to be very curious as to what I was doing. I wanted to get a closer look at him but he would stay ahead of me enough so that I couldnt get a closer look at him. This creature was tall enough that it to crouch behind sagebrush that was about 5'-5'2 in height. Its estimated weight was only around 100-125lbs. I didnt have my camera with me at the time.
