| In late summer 2000 I was driving home from work on US 23 in Pike county Kentucky in the community of Dorton. It was dark but but a bright half-moon was out so the landscape was fairly visible. I saw a black animal crossing the road in front of me in a slow-moving crouch close to the ground. It's head was very big. The animal once it crossed the road made a turn to run paralell with the highway so I drove off onto the shoulder off into the grass to see if I could put my headlights on it. I saw clearly a 40 to 45 pound black cat with a 2 to 3 foot tail. It was very fast. I saw it for less than 10 seconds and it was gone into the woods. Pike county Kentucky is a very rugged mountainous area with endless woodlands and mountain ridges. Most people do not believe me to this day. It had red eyes in the lights when it crossed the road in front of me. I have never seen one since then but I know the cats are here in Eastern Kentucky. |
