I am reporting this after reading the panther sightings in goerga
I didnt know that the black panther was an anamal of so much
debate.
anyway about 12 years ago i was driving down hyway 17(about5 miles
outside of newport arkansas) at appox.2am when i saw a huge black panther run across the road just in front of the car.
i was driving a large car,and the cat was so close i had to hit
the brakes to keep from hitting it.
the cats body, not counting the tale, was almost as long as the car was wide.I was driving at 55 or 60 mph when it occured.
i immedieatly stopped the car and started to get out to see if i could get another glimpse of the cat.(I was armed with a large
caliber pistol,and bright light)but by the time i stepped out
of the car i decided that it wasnt in my best intrest,so i got back in the car and left the area.
years later when i was a deputy sheriff in greene co arkansas,
i was talking to the local game warden one nite (I dont remember exactly what we were talking about) but i do remember him saying
that there was no black panthers in arkansas,upon hearing this i
told him of my account of the pantherand he simply dismissed it
saying i didnt know what i saw,that it was something else.
I just thought it was just another case of a state employee
with more education than brians.
panthers are common knowledge to every one i can think of.
