Yowie Roar, NSW, Australia.
posted by Brendan whoop_a_chang88@hotmail.com on May 18, 2006
It was about 7 years ago and i was 11 yrs old. A few mates and I had been tresspassing behind Warragamba Dam (now a high security area). The Warragamba region is part of the great dividing range so its made up of HUGE sandstone cliffs, valleys ect. Anyway, we had found an old mine shaft on a previous visit which we found snakes in (the main reason for going in the area) so we decided to go into the shaft once again. The shaft was about 3m (9 foot) wide and about 2m (6 foot) and was about 20-30m deep, being cut into the side of a ridge. We walked in about 15m and started catching little brown bats and then all of a sudden a roar like nothing else sounded from right outside the cave. The roar went for about 10 seconds. After another 10 seconds another roar came and went for twice as long. We moved to the back of the cave, genuinely waiting for something to walk in and slaughter us. After about an hour of waiting (no exaggeration) nothing had happened and we built up the courage to walk out of the cave.

I had heard lions roar at plenty of times as there used to be a lion safari park up the road but this roar sounded so much more powerful then any lion I'd heard. A LOT more powerful, it was unbelievable and its something that never leaves you. The only thing i can relate it to would be the T-rex on jarrassic park's roar crossed with a lions roar. There have been plenty of sightings in the warragamba area. Since then iv found handprints in mud with the hand being 20cm wide. Iv found trees snapped 5 foot off the ground when there hasnt been any wind for ages. Ive been stalked at night by what sounded like a very large human, apparently some yowies enjoys getting reactions out of people! MY mum has heard a roar just like mine not far from our house, as well as mates finding trees snapped and bent.

Sorry to go on for so long, just thought you would be interested to hear it.

Brendan.
