Yowie sighting in Gympie, Queensland, Australia.
posted by Shelly maire@unevenstar.com on July 21, 2004
While bushwalking on vacation recently, about mid-afternoon, I heard something snap in the scrub behind me. At first I thought it was another person; after turning around, I found myself faced with a three-metre-high, short-faced kangaroo! It was dark grey in colour, with massive incisor teeth and a flat, koala-like nose. Unfortunately, it leapt right over my head and bounded away into the forest before I could take a photograph of it, but I'm a bit of a palaeontology buff, and I got a good enough look to recognise the face - a Procoptodon, or Yowie, considered to be extinct since the Megafauna period some thousands of years ago. It was absolutely amazing. I intend on returning to the scene of the encounter as soom as possible; hopefully next time, I'll have photographs to prove it.
