Megalania Prisca |
|
Megalania Prisca is thought to reside in Australia and New Guinea. It is a much larger, prehistoric version of the komodo dragon, weighing in at at least 1000 pounds and 20-30 feet long. In 1979, it was spotted by a farmer from across his field and by scientist Frank Gordon, who mistook it for a log before it moved off. It was spotted in New Guinea by a Frenchman who spotted it on a fallen tree. Megalania is semi-aquatic, which may account for it's ability to evade notice, perhaps hiding in a sub-aquatic cavern. Aborigines have legends of Mungoongalli, a giant lizard. Says periodical writer Richard Freeman, "Recently part of a megalania hipbone was discovered in a sub-fossil state, only one or two hundred years old." - entry provided by Isaac Lee, leeisaac@bigfoot.com
