Loch Ness Monster |
|
Loch Ness is a deep dark lake located in Scotland. For centuries there have reports of a lake monster inhabiting the lake. This creature is known as the Loch Ness Monster or Nessie. The earliest report of the creature took place in A.D. 565 when an Irish monk named St. Columba confronted what he called a man-eating dragon in River Ness and causing it to flee into the lake. 1933 was the year that made Nessie famous. A couple had seen the monster while driving near the lake's edge. They watched the monster for a few minutes before it plunged into the lake. They described it looking like a long necked creature. Nessie became an international sensation and appeared in Scotish newspapers. There have many photos taken of Nessie but they can't provide enough information if she exists or not. One shows movement in the water that can't be made by boats or other creatures. The "Surgeon's Photograph" was thought to be the best proof of the creature's existence, but it has since been the subject of a deathbed confession of forgery. At first people thought Nessie was a single creature, but people calim to have seen more then one monster. Two boys who were boating on the loch claimed to have seen baby Nessies. Since the 1960s, investigators have used sophisticated technology to look for Nessie including mini submarines. Sonar readings show large creatures at least sixteen feet long diving at great speed. An underwater photo taken in 1975 may show a flipper. Some have been hampered by the lake's darkness. Today over 3,000 people have claimed to have seen Nessie. Her physical appearance matches that of plesiosaurs, prehistoric marine reptiles that have barrel-shaped bodies, long necks with small heads, a long thick tail, and four flippers. - entry provided by Sarah Silva, remalink@hotmail.com
