If the shunka warak'in ("carryong off dogs") is the same as the taxidermied animal, photos of which appear on the last couple pages of the gallery, and that was a canid instead of a hyena, this is how I picture it getting its name. The dog is a Carolina dog.
Canid monsters are an old subject for me. I think the shunka's foreleg looks like it merged with the neck -- it's not supposed to look like that, also the torso seems too short, but it was a very quick sketch. Next I'm thinking of doing one of the beast of Gevaudan. |
