Its a Little Auk, also known as a Dovekie.

Google it... hundreds of pics of them. Definitely not a Loon.

It's a Dovekie or maybe a Murrelet, both related to Auks! Both are cute!

That is a real bird. It is probably in the winter plumage. The breeding plumage would make the bird look really cute.

Pray-for-mojo is right it is a Marbled Murrelet. I just did a Google search and found a pic of a juvenile that is almost exactly like the bird in the picture.

The beak of this bird and the bird in the newspaper seem to differ, among other things. this leads me to believe that this is not the same species found earlier. as I said before, DNA tests should verify the creature.
