Bird Spider Tarantulas are really hairy with thick body parts. I think they only live in places like Africa or SOuth America and maybe even Australia. They have orange tones on them too. They grow to be about 12X12 inches sometimes. Largest spider in the world.

I thought Porcupines shooting out their quills was a myth... Oh well.

Anywho, this would be a nightmare to meh cuz Im kinda a arachnaphobic sp

Comment by: Mizz Phae on Mar 07, 2007
You wouldn't be able to own that spider as a pet if it is indeed a goliath. They have tiny microscopic hairs that they can fling out at will and are detrimental to the mucous membranes of eyesmouthetc. P Would be a painful pet.

Comment by: Sslangen on Feb 06, 2007
I don't care if it is a spider or an arachnid, it's absolutely disgusting..!

Comment by: Enalya on Jan 23, 2007
What a beauty! Such a shame we don't have spiders this big in NZ, I'd have one in my room as a pet.
Miss Sasquatch, on a teeny side note and for anyone who's interested, camel spiders aren't actually spiders...they are arachnids, but more closely related to scorpions.

Comment by: crypto25 on Jan 06, 2007
its a goliath alright

Comment by: Miss_Sasquatch on Jan 01, 2007
ewww spiders are gross. camel spiders are sooo gross too!

Comment by: Raeven on Dec 10, 2006
Yep, it's a Bird Eater all right! Nice Photo!

Comment by: Con-Rit on Dec 09, 2006
Well. That's, erm...beautiful.

Comment by: hellmonkeyd2 on Dec 06, 2006
that was supposed to be three fourths

Comment by: hellmonkeyd2 on Dec 06, 2006
all tarantulas have those hairs, and bird eating spiders are more bark than bite when it comes down to it. my tarantulas more venomous and its 34 the size. btw goliaths sell at around 100 for a female so that wouldnt be a bad idea.

Comment by: Loder on Dec 03, 2006
spitfirebird....I don't think it's photoshopped because it simply doesn't need to be. There is nothing cryptic about that photo. It's a dead bird-eating spider held in someone's hand. If it was smiling and drinking a brew.....then I'd agree with ya.

Comment by: ill-tell-what-i-think on Nov 29, 2006
Big spider i've seen bigger

Comment by: spitfirebird on Nov 28, 2006
It is most definitely photoshopped, there are shadows of the spiders legs on the background.

Comment by: Cryptogurl6657 on Nov 27, 2006
Holy Shyte!!!! It's cool though. Hmmm. My Ex-boyfriend who lives in scottland told me that he went on a trip to Africa and saw one of those.

Comment by: Blood_Moon_Werewolf on Nov 26, 2006
I'd say Goliath Bird Spider, as said before. On a lighter note - I CALL IT AS MY PET! AND I NAME IT BOB! .

Comment by: RobUrban on Nov 19, 2006
I'd eat it.

Comment by: Siren on Nov 16, 2006
Bird Eater as said before. And either it is dead in that picture or photoshopped. A spider wouldn't lay down on a hand like that unless it was dead or dying. And bird eaters aren't normally handable anyways. Not like red-knees. Bird eaters have BAD attitudes and bad tempers. We had one at the pet shop and it was mean as sin.

Bird Spider

Comment by: crypted_newby on Nov 12, 2006
keep that a safe distance away from me and nobody gets hurt... any spiders large enough to take down even a fly are too big for me, i hate them, not fear mind you, just a pure undying hatred....

Comment by: GeoffBaby on Nov 11, 2006
wow..that thing is amazingly HUGE..

Comment by: Red Hot Chili Peppers on Nov 10, 2006
Although you may be telling the truth, thunderbird, the spider looks like it was lying on something, and the image of a human hand was imprinted on a computer. this may not be true. The spider may have just been an exotic pet that escaped or was set free.

Comment by: Loder on Nov 02, 2006
cryptidfan - Sorry I can't help you with the picture thing. Never tired myself. However I can assure you that the spider shown in the picture is dead. You can tell this by the way the abdomen is wrinkled and shrunk. The exoskeleton of most spiders, and many insects for that matter are not very hard and shell-like as many think, as a result they dehydrate and shrivel up when the insect is dead. You'll notice this on most pinned butterflys. Beautiful wings....but shriveled bodies.

Oh and turtlehunter91 - The dangerous hairs on these fellas aren't so bad. They may cause a very minor rash on skin, and cannot necessarily 'shoot' out. Though they can travel a short distance in the air they are mainly a self-defense mechanism for predators including birds that need to get very close to it. Anyone person getting close enough to the spider to have those hairs reach their eyes or nostrils where they can cause considerable irritation....well....they're asking for it!

Comment by: cryptidfan on Nov 02, 2006
Good question, turtle, because I'm new too. The thing I'm curious about is about the guy's hand. Is he holding the spider or what?

Comment by: turtlehunter91 on Nov 01, 2006
Hey, how long does it take to get your picture posted in the gallery, cause I've already tried to post two, but no luck?

Comment by: Cryptid Catcher on Nov 01, 2006
Sorry. Prof00 is right, it lives down there in South America.

Comment by: ThUnDeR BiRd on Oct 31, 2006

Oh, and just so you know, Goliath bird eating spider have dangerous hairs on their abdoment that they can shoot the way some people think porcupines can shoot their needles yeah, I really want one of these guys to live near me

Comment by: turtlehunter91 on Oct 31, 2006
What on God's green earth would make you want this guy to live near you. If I saw one of them near my house, I tried to catch it and sell it to either pet co or some demonic little kid.
