Yes, it is a Chimaera. Though this one looks odd. They're usually brighter in color and sometimes spotted. In my opinion, this one looks WAY cooler.

Comment by: Subsplot on Dec 28, 2007
Dam it, I've seen one of those before on a program about strange marine life. Can't for the life of of me remeber its name, just vague hints that its related to something to do with witchcraft and the number three.

Comment by: Cryptogurl6657 on Nov 13, 2006
There was some sort of fish that in the late 1900's was thought to be extinct, because a fisherman caught one, and no more showed up for a while after that, but, it must've accustomed itself to the deep, and has lived down there for about 60-70 years. That fish is definately no ordinary fish.

It's discoveries like this that provide fodder for the cryptid fire if such a thing can exist, something we didn't even consider or have the slightest imagination of, why not something we actually have considered?
I need to search all the animals the tsunami drudged up, they've got to be wild.

its more then likely yet another undiscovered deep sea fish that was swept up with the tsunami. there are hundreds of deep sea creatures that are still undiscovered because we dont have the technology to dive down deep enough to reach them and observe them

For the record, tsunamis are NOT surface waves, they involve the entire water column. Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes or under-sea land slides that displace all the water above the affected area. They travel out from the source at speeds far exceeding surface waves. Also, tsunamis and "tidal waves" are not the same thing, as tsunamis have nothing to do with tides. -Imateni

Comment by: lurkingfear_30 on Mar 20, 2006
Those are not so rare. I have seen live chimeras in several documentaries, one about norwegian fjords. An ancient species they are nevertheless. The eye is simply reflecting the camera-flash. As with cats, their eyes double-reflect incoming light to be able to take advantage of the least bit of illumination.

Comment by: Loder on Mar 19, 2006
For all Tsunami lovers....though a tsunami is caused by sudden movements of the earth undersea volcano or earthquake they are a SURFACE phenomena and have no effect on benthic species of aquatic life. There is no force involved in a tsunami that would in any way bring anything upwards from the extreme depths. A critter like this probably a deep sea species of ratfish is perfectly real, but would HAVE to be brought up by a net. A shock wave travels through the water, but does not push things in front of it. The only visual manifestation of the tsunami is when it approaches shore and the shock wave is forced up as the water gets more shallow. The only things a tsunami or any wave for that matter carries with it are those things picked up by the wave itself as it develops on the surface. Picture a surfer swimming out to sea that plunges below an oncoming wave...and it passes right by them not pushing them anywhere. Anyway...sorry about the ramble, but misinformation like that drives me nuts. OK...time for a beer.

There were many stories about strange sea-creatures which were said to be discovered after the tsunami, but in fact this were just hoax-stories, and the animals were discovered independently.
By the way Chimeras have very small teeth on their skin, similar to sharks and rays, and are really not slimy.

Comment by: canadian_guy on Mar 13, 2006
Yea a chimera.
Why wouldnt it be real ace huh.
They arent that rare. and yes after the tsunami left hole bunch of deep sea fish on the shores, but that one is on a boat.

Comment by: TonyCannon on Mar 13, 2006
It's not after "the"a tsunami. The person is obviously on a fishing boat. Rope, rail, metal sealing doors, ect. Just because it's on the internet, doesn't mean it's true. This thing got caught in a mistakenly caught in a commercial fisherman's net. Gee, imagine that.
