All joking apart, I genuinely see that as the difference between how the USA and Europe view wildlife.

There are plenty of Americans who respect and appreciate nature too. But there's always some idiots who want to shoot anything. Hunting is good when it's used to control numbers like white-tailed deer hunting but hunting for wolves is just stupid.

Yeah, I shouldn't generalize. We have too many deer in parts of the UK too. I have no problem with people shooting and eating them, I love venison myself. But (officially) we have no (terrestrial non-hominid) predator larger than a fox or badger here. As a long-term solution I vote for re-introducing wolves, brown bears and lynx to the highlands.

The white-tailed sea eagle was re-introduced as we all know. I spent a lot of money in Mull last year that I wouldn't have done so otherwise and I'd certainly pay well to have the chance to see apex predators wild in the Highlands. I suspect the prices the locals charge could be adjusted to outweigh the odd sheep that might go missing...

And don't get me started on Caribou Barbie shooting wolves from a helicopter. That would be political suicide absolutely anywhere in Europe.

uh...

I believe that wolves are still, often illegally, killed by farmers and herders. Birds of prey are frequently shot in Britain as pests, and if you really want to be sickened, look up stuff on bird migration and Malta.

Prince Harry was recently questioned by the police about the shooting of two hen harriers at Sandringham (there were less than twenty pairs of hen harriers in England and a pair less now). The Prince and an unidentified friend were apparently the only people shooting at the time but we're told they don't know anything about it. I wish the idiot would just spend his spare time dressing up as a Nazi, as he used to (see below).

To be fair, public opinion in Malta is turning against the annual massacre, public opinion in the UK about the ignorant louts that comprise the Royal Family is a different matter.

And don't get me started on Phil the Greek and his Presidency of the World Wildlife Fund... like Harry he'd shoot anything that came within range.

A drunken idiot I'm supposed to respect:

That's a photo that won't be winning any awards, I suspect...
