That story about Teddy Roosevelt is greatly exaggerated. It wasn't a friend of his that told the story. It was a third party tale about two trappers. A campfire story. For some reason people try to make more of it because it is teddy's story. The "attack of the apemen story" is also problematical and was the opener for the "paranormal bigfoot" crowd. I seldom thought of it that way, maybe a tad bit romanticized, definitely very good reading. Roosevelt's was very drastic.
