I'm impressed! Well written blog and carefully considered. I don't know that you need be as concerned about an official coverup as it seems you might be. If the pair of you did refer only to "a mutated bear", that would appease any coveruppers that they would be able to easily manipulate any media coverage based off of that description.

Except for us on this site!

Your friends status as a hunter is impressive and gives much credibility if he should testify. You're no slouch, either! I sure would like a lot of carcass photos and DNA samples taken though. Big samples, too, like a head or a hand/foot, in case it's too cumbersome to bring the whole carcass to your truck.

Any thoughts about accessing the area where you saw the animal to look for traces?

Thanks for the roog review!
Again, let me publically state that I'm speaking hypothetically....

Yes, I did think about going to the spot we saw it. But it would have been a day in and a day out meaning I would have had to sleep in the mountains miles from anyone, and I would have needed rock climbing gear, and a gun(protection). If it were summer I would have gone back in with a camera and a side arm. And I'm not dumb enough to even try and kill one miles from civilization, ape canyone comes to mind.

Summer though, you can count on me going back in.
