Please please no killing. As far as I know though, Skamania & Whatcom counties are the only ones outlawing this with what I feel is too lenient a sentence, but a creature with the recognition of the army corps of engineers themselves should have wider coverage and stricter safety. I think it would be ideal to find an already dead one, sad but alot more preferable than up and blowing one away for the sake of proof & profit. I'm surprised you would consider that.

I speak hypothetically. I think there would be to many problems if I did kill one, both with the law, and being killed by the BF's friends.

Only two cases I know of involving BF Attacks, the St.Helens incident & that friend of a friend of President Roosevelt's. But ya never know lol. There's actually not Enough deterrent towards killing one. Our Sequim neighbor, the late Grover Krantz, tried all sorts of attempts, even looking for 'em in an ultralight.Still alot of researchers who defend him to this day. While I know we may need an actual Body of Evidence for Proof there's gotta be a better way to go about it. I'm not lecturing, everyone's got a different opinion and approach, just expressign mine.

That story about Teddy Roosevelt is greatly exaggerated. It wasn't a friend of his that told the story. It was a third party tale about two trappers. A campfire story. For some reason people try to make more of it because it is teddy's story.

The "attack of the apemen story" is also problematical and was the opener for the "paranormal bigfoot" crowd.

Apemen Attack being Paranormal as in Sasquatch Empathy or Telepathy?or even worse lol. I seldom thought of it that way, maybe a tad bit romanticized, definitely very good reading. Roosevelt's was very drastic. BOth involved higher thought processes like association, abstract thinking or revenge. Anthropomorphy maybe.

Ben,

Good blog man. I felt like I was down there with you two, peering through binocs at the elusive beast. Anyway, I am not one to judge on bears in the wild, but it sounds like your friend can. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the climax of the story is that you experienced a sighting that involved an unusually large bear-man-bigfoot type appearance, to be determined. Your friend earlier questioned, then came to validate, his answer through logic from his own perspective. Okay, I buy it- sounds legit. You aren't making a case or persuading others- just stating the facts. Again- good blog.

Hey, know this is OLD, but I have been a bit behind in here, and just read your great blog. Very nicely told, no matter what you saw, and quite intriguing! Maybe you and Ed could go back that way, and take a good camera? Bigfoot or record bear, it would be awesome to have a picture or video. Whether you ever find it again or not, you have a great story to tell.
