Joan, this is one of those reasons that I chose to not be in the Navy. Too many creatures in the oceans that move above us on the food chain when we enter their world. Nice find.

I agree with you on that navy thing. I'm just glad that I have a fear of water above my waist. Long story short I almost drowned when I was only 2 and have bad flashbacks everytime i'm in the beach or pool. Kind of sad for me.

My Dad was in the Navy. He wasn't too thrilled on more than one occasion. John worked offshore on/under oil platforms for a while. Had quite a few incidents with curious critters that he found humbling, too.

Not yet mature?? maybe it's a baby megalodon????? there's a link saying the great white cut the other great white in half? maybe it's a megalodon?

maybe it's a megalodon?

It was 4.3 meters long and 700 kilograms in weight. Roughly speaking 14 feet long and 1500 lbs. Hardly a baby megladon but a normal great white.

It says it's in it's adolesance. i was reading both the capture one and the other one that bit the great white in half.

if it's in it's adolescence. dang.. it must be meg.. cause i never read or heard of a young white shark bigger as usual. Meg may either be a gigantic white shark or its appearance is like the great white or something similar.

It's clearly a very standard Carcharodon carcharias, it's not even that big. In fact, it's rather standard for a late adolescent shark. These animals spend their younger years growing terrifically fast, and then remain much the same size the rest of their lives. The media loves to embellish, a 4.2m 700kg shark is not all that remarkable in a species that can grow to around 6m and over 2000kg. A magnificent animal, sure, but nothing overly special in terms of its size or age.
