Thanks for that - it tallies with those amongst us who are as happy to anticipate the discovery of new species in PNG, Myanmar & the Amazon as we are to still dream about the what-might-bes of our childhoods. The Financial & YEC sides of things are particularly important, although I think the Christian Young Earth Creationist agenda in the 'field' seems more confined, at present, to the USA. It doesn't extend so much to the UK or, as far as I can see, Europe.
Here's my take on your subtitles, for what it's worth.
BIGFOOT 40 years since PG & no concrete evidence. It's all blobsquatches, samplesquatches, bear-prints/hairs, sensationalism & scam. The few allegedly genuine sightings have occurred unexpectedly & without preparation. It beggars belief, to an extent, that no flesh & blood proof exists. Or does it?
LAKE MONSTERS/SEA MONSTERS I agree. As geological & paleontological research advances, the myth of the lake creature-as-plesio/zeuglodon etc. loses what little credibility it had. The deep seas remain our best chance of finding entirely new taxons, although megalodon is merely an extension of the Living Dinos Brigade's pipedream IMO. Kanas & Tian Chi might well be host to some interesting & new big subspecies.
SURVIVING DINOSAURS/PTEROSAURS Totally agreed. To think otherwise is nonsense.
MYSTERIOUS BIG CATS The best chance of evidence, IMO, of finding an as -yet-unclassified animal in the populous areas of the planet. And some will merely be escaped or released exotics.
CREATIONISM AND CRYPTOZOOLOGY Like all things, it comes & goes. It follows the trends of faith-based beliefs & as such is massively on the rise, not only to feed the fires of the YECs but to feed the fires of the gullible, the kids & the crackpots. I don't think it'll go away any time soon, or at least until there's incontrovertible evidence that every single yard of the planet has been mapped, re. living dinos.
CRYPTOZOOLOGY AS A FINANCIAL ENDEAVOR Cryptozoology is the new sci-fi. Except in this case, you can actually go in field trips, WHOOPEE!! My only worry is the damage caused to the environs opened up, such as is happening at Kanas Lake right now.
NEW SPECIES IN NEW PLACES I get more excitement from the Laotian rock rat or the Giant Peccary being discovered precisely because they WERE so unexpected, particularly the rat - a family missing from the chain for 11m years being found. Wow.
Good luck with the studies, then go & find some tatzelwurms.

I tried to write around the issue, but my own stance on bigfoot is that it doesn't exist. Maybe it once did, and no longer does, but the amount of effort put into searching, without any conclusive positive results, has made me lose hope in it's continued existence. |

My 'or does it?' was just me going X-Files-psycho for a second.
Actually, I think a lot more effort could yet be put into looking for it. I just don't think they'll find anything. The stats don't add up. |

true, and it seems like too much effort is being put into searching for bigfoot back east, where the probability of bigfoot surviving unseen is much lower. |

Well, why don't you toddle on up to Hominids & check out Brad's latest thread? To me, it encapsulates part of the problem faced by the 'BF' community. In trying to centralise their resources, they're only distancing themselves from true objectivity. The PNW would seem the likeliest chance for any 'proof' IMO. |

I meant the seeming exclusiveness of it all. No room for non-believers, & only Americans are allowed to have an opinion, is what I read. To me, he immediately got off on the wrong foot by naming the names he wanted in his club. |

I didn't get that idea at all from reading his post, he was merely listing people he thought would be interested in contributing that could write half way decent. After all, had he just made a blanket statement asking for submissions, just think of the number of people who would ask to write a article? Cisco did that with the blogs, which is how we got Phil and others. I figure subscription would be open to all. |

Forget laotian rock rats. I want a multituberculate or some other such primitive mammal to show up. Perhaps surviving descendants of the New Zealand St. Bathans critter. |
