Interesting topic and nice blog. Over a year ago, the Dutch Royal Weather Institue put buoys in the coastal waters to register large waves. During a november storm, some of the equipment indicated there were some waves over 18 meters. This caused some alarm, Holland being a flat country and all. Testing in a laboratory however showed that the equipment was hit by a strong 8 meter wave. But what happens in the Atlantic is of course a different story alltogether. Cheers,

Thanks. I was re-reading Gaddis' Invisible Horizons a while back and it struck me that more than a few of the cryptooceanographical mysteries in the book could be explained by rougue waves.

You're putting up consistently good, quality blogs. Nothing spectacular, always informative and interesting, which is probably why no one really comments on them.

I do believe you're right. My stuff hasn't had much in the way of controvery or been too 'off the wall'. Maybe the Chupacabra series will stir the pot. I'm afraid it's going to be a bit too long and of those that read the whole thing many, if not most, will miss the point.
