Subject: Rogue waves From: nimravus posted Sat, Jun 9 2007, 10:18pm  Interesting topic and nice blog. Over a year ago, the Dutch Royal Weather Institue put buoys in the coastal waters to register large waves. During a november storm, some of the equipment indicated there were some waves over 18 meters. This caused some alarm, Holland being a flat country and all. Testing in a laboratory however showed that the equipment was hit by a strong 8 meter wave. But what happens in the Atlantic is of course a different story alltogether. I was re-reading Gaddis' Invisible Horizons a while back and it struck me that more than a few of the cryptooceanographical mysteries in the book could be explained by rougue waves. Maybe the Chupacabra series will stir the pot. I'm afraid it's going to be a bit too long and of those that read the whole thing many, if not most, will miss the point.
