Thanks everyone - good to be back with something interesting to write about.
Apparently the Captain who led the expedition in the 60's did report exploring a cave in the region. The team apparently found bits of a monitor lizard skeleton and the carapace of a tortoise - which were both said to be part of the diet of the Nittaewo.
Again, this is really jumping to conclusions to declare that this is evidence of Nittaewo occupation. All manner of carnivores also hunt monitor lizards and tortoise. Still, back then there was no such thing as carbon dating and I doubt they collected anything for analysis either.
So I still remain hopeful of someone being able to find something more conclusive in the future. Only problem is that the area identified as the Nittaewo's former habitat is now occupied by terrorists in the ongoing Civil War over in Sri Lanka, so its still uncertain as to when anyone (including me!) can explore the area safely. |

Hai Charith,
Good to see that you're doing fine. And a good topic for a blog. Many sightings of men like creatures are made in areas which are also bear habitat. Makes you wonder indeed.
I'am heading for Sumatra coming week, to do some 'field work'in Kerinci Seblat, where the fabled Orang pendek supposedly lives. But there are bears too. A cast of a footprint, attributed to a pendek, made in the 1920's later turned out to be that of a sloth bear. Picture below. |

Good luck down in Sumatra Nimravus! I've noticed that Orang Pendek info from Kerinci Seblat seems to have dried up for a while. Still waiting to read about the analysis of the hairs and footprint casts collected by those two British explorers.
