Well he may have seen it BUT as he didn't know what it was, thinking it was just a strange star, I can't credit it to him as an actual discovery.
And no, I'm not a fan of Columbus either. |

AFAIK, you can discover something without actually knowing what it is. I mean if I found a giant bio-luminescent Lazarus-taxon flying beastie somewhere off PNG the fact that I couldn't immediately put a name to it wouldn't mean I'd forfeited my right to a Nobel Prize surely?
