There is no such thing as an unwinnable war. |

Since the initial premises for war were to find bin Laden & the Al-Qaeda hierarchy & remove the Taliban, one must measure its success by the success of these priorities. Bin Laden hasn't been found & only a very few Al-Qaeda leaders have been killed or captured. The Taliban were removed, only for them to return with the sort of campaign which resulted in them seeing off 250,000 Russians - Russians who certainly would view their involvement as "unwinnable". |

Russia lost the war due to a lack of political will. A lesson which seems to be lost on you. |

Russia lost because they couldn't overcome the mujahadeen & their guerilla tactics. I remember it well, unlike you who must rely on Wikipedia & Fox. Political will was destroyed by the enemy & the public opinion, as is happening in the UK &, to a slightly lesser extent, the USA. That's how wars are won & lost, a truism which seems to be completely lost on you. |

Public opinion can be reversed if people want it to be. Political will can be upheld if people want it to be. The Taliban doesn't mind-control the British population and its politicians. |

Again I wonder Meg, how you can expect others to do what you are unwilling to do yourself. As far as I am concerned you don't even have a dog in the fight if you are pro-war and have not served. |

The British people realise the failed reasons for intervention in Afghanistan, & are now beginning to heartily resent their sons' & daughters' deaths in the name of political intransigence. Don't have a go at me - have a go at the 70+% in the UK who think the troops should be pulled out in a year. Vox populi, not mind control. |
