Subject: How I heard about it
From: Just Joan posted Fri, Nov 6 2009, 8:03pm
Thursday evening I was at an awards banquet for Rotary International. The Mistress of Ceremonies STARTED the evening with a moment of silence for the victims-------at which I shot an alarmed look at John because I hadn't heard anything at all. He had one hand on the table and flashed five fingers twice and then three fingers. Being silent, I was freaking out because that meant "553" victims to me. Two minutes later I got the amended version of the events.

Which leads me to this:

The Rotary Banquet began with concern for this event.

All day today, no matter which radio station I turned to INCLUDING music channels, was chatter about President Obama blathering on about thanking people for setting up microphones and giving "shout outs" to retired war heroes or somesuch. What the heck was he thinking (if at all) that he didn't prioritize the shootings in Ft. Hood over his localized interests of the hour?

He had 90 minutes (according to assorted yammerers on the radio) from when he first heard of the crime until he addressed the nation in regard to it.
President Bush has been vilified for "stalling" for a whopping 3 minutes while he was in the presence of little children when the Towers were attacked.

Don't WE matter? Don't WE soldiers matter? Don't WE friends, families and citizen-strangers matter to President Obama?

The whole idea that George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, etc are our "Founding Fathers" and that for better or worse now Barack Obama is among their ranks EVER rattle around in his head?! Has he no sense of priorities?

I realize that I am projecting my own outrage at his bizarre manner of addressing the attacks to the nation and that I may well be (and dear God, I hope I am) wrong that he doesn't give a rat's behind what happens to the military personnel.

He seems to have ZERO interest in the wars over which he IS the Commander in Chief. Are our soldiers to die by attrition due to lack of reinforcements? When is this hundreds and hundreds of hours of golfing, basketball and glad handing going to morph into a couple of hours sitting at The Resolute Desk and making some Executive decisions?

Rant paused....

Joan, Obama seems to be proving himself to be just another spokesperson for the elite. He got selected, then "elected", just like the majority of our previous presidents.

I know the Obama supporters aren't going to like this, but I wish SOMEONE would sit this over-grown adolescent-with-ADD down and explain to him that he's "grounded" until he takes care of his responsibilities and chores.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the guy. And I realize he inherited this mess, but so far, and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't see any progress, change or even the hint of it.

What I DO see is him darting off in all directions on various jaunts and his wife disrespecting AF1 and embarrassing us deplaning in a sloppy shorts-and-tank getup (and looking like she forgot her bra).

Now, if you'll excuse me for a few minutes, I'm going to put on my suit of armor before the bullets and arrows start flying........

Hey Constant, I voted for Obama, but I did so with my own caveat that in 2012 if things aren't going better, and I mean substantially so, I won't vote for him again. I don't have voter's remorse by any means but I am so far not very impressed. I think the huge wave of independents and moderates that voted for him will very possibly look elsewhere or stay home unless he gets on the ball and starts actually producing some solid results.

it was soooooo much better that Dubya sat there in the classroom reading My Pet Goat to children on the morning of September 11, 2001 after he was told about some trouble in NY...

No, it wasn't. I'm not going to defend Bush. There IS no defense for the mess in which he left this country. But Obama was voted in for "Change We Can Believe In" and so far the only change I've seen, and again, please correct me if I'm wrong, has been for the worse.

Again, I don't hate Obama. I just wish he would settle down and start creating some postive changes. No, I don't know exactly how. Then again, I wasn't voted in as President. He supposedly has some great plans to assist us out of this mess we're in. That was his platform, wasn't it?

In my opinion, Obama just seems to be all flash, no substance. And that scares me.

yeah i figured as much that the election was picking the lesser of two fails... my main problem is the crowd that forgot where the mess came from, and are so quick to blame the new guy for everything...

picture unrelated, but hilarious...

No, no, no, Veers - I don't forget, nor do I exonerate - although I'm surely accused of it by the vehemently opposed.

What I "blame" President Obama for is his failure to DECIDE and ACT for the benefit of the citizens of the US. I recognize that it is exactly that sentence that differentiates the sentiments of "Republicans vs Democrats". It SEEMS that President Obama is siding with segments of the populace that have gone under or not represented, which I can respect as ALL citizens of the US should indeed be represented. But what I resent as a TAXPAYER (and yes an admitted Republican, but moreso a fiscal conservative) is that in his bid to "help" these people, he is making it extremely difficult and in some ways impossible for TAXPAYERS to afford his hand outs to these other people.

We TAXPAYERS are now being taxed "without" representation. I know you're an excellent student of history. This is indeed the crux of the problems for me.

Small businesses are what drive and build economies and our nation. If a business cannot afford to offer benefits in addition to wages for services rendered by an employee, then that business will not be able to hire anymore BECAUSE of the required benefits as imposed by the government upon the business.

The "underclass" that had been neglected a place of notice by politicians unless it was expedient for headlines is now getting handouts and will be denied actual "hand ups" from the very people previously helping them. The government is getting in the way of progress in an attempt to encourage it.
