Subject: Drunks in Northern Minnesota Claim They Killed a River Monster

Did you all read the news about the drunks in Minnesota that claimed they killed a river monster? It doesn't make sense to me. They guy said it grabbed his hand and then " Wally lifted his arm straight up into the air. The serpent creature curled around the length of his arm, wrapping it like a barber pole. ". Then it goes on to describe it as being 6-7 feet long. Wouldn't it be rather heavy if its that long, I mean, too long to life out of the water straight up in the air? Guess not if its thin. And if their as wasted as they make themselves out to be, how do they remember a lot of it? At one point he describes it as a snake. Maybe just a bunch of dumb--- drunk guys mistook a snake for a "river monster". Something just doesn't add up to me, what do ya'll think?

Just from the description, it sounds a lot like your garden variety eel. ive hooked a few while fishing (none longer than 2.5ft though)and the first thing they do when you try to unhook them is wrap themselves around your arm.

Eels, as far as my experience tells me, will take just about any bait, so i guess it could be possible a big one may have taken a go at Wally's arm, although i seriously doubt it.

I'm not sure about the size range of Eels in the US, but over here in britain they can get fairly long. ive heard of one that was nearly 4ft long. if the size ranges are similar, its entirely possible that a large eel looked like it was 6ft long to a wine-fuddled mind.

I regards to weight, eels really dont weigh that much. The 4 footer one of my friends told me about was only about 5-6lbs apparantly.
