I wonder why it is submerged. It seems to have been above water until 3000 years ago. The only thing I can think of at the moment is vulanic activity and/or earthquakes that lead to a reforming of the local landscape.

The team are also, at this time, carrying out a systematic study of the area's geomorphology to try to determine the reason for its submergence.

thanks becca, i've heard of Pavlopetri before, it's fantastic that it's finally being investigated.

why the 42-year gap between investigations? i seem to remember something about the greek government refusing anyone permission to dive there until now, i wonder what changed?
