A cool link to some pics of extinct critters. Some of these pics I've never seen before, so I thought I'd share with you guys. The Thylacine pics are amazing.

You're right it is very cool, but also very sad. I'd never seen those pics of the quagga either. At least with the thylacine there is a small possibility that it still exists, maybe on the mainland if not in Tassie itself. I cannot describe how overjoyed I would be if the found one. There have been a number of sightings both in the Grampians in Victoria and the Flinders ranges in Sth Aus. Maybe people weren't mistaken, hopefully people weren't mistaken; but if they were, I hope we manage to find a way to help the devils. It would be a very great tragedy if we let them go the way of the others. |

This is excellent reading. Some of these animals don't get the recognition of the more famous thylacines or passenger pigeons. |

I'd never heard of the Warrah, & find it fascinating due to the remoteness of the location & the questions over its specific taxonomy. And Darwin wrote of it too. Shortly before it met its rather predictable end. |

Very sad that mankind has to wipe out species and then regret it |

I think it's sad when it happens now. Back then, it just wasn't a worry or even a way to predict how the hunting or expansion or mankind can effect a species. Now that we are armed with the science and technology, we can take measures to stop this. But still, some countries do not, and it's frustrating. Not to mention mankind is still expanding massively over this planet.
I belive there was a dolphin ? that recently became extinct in China. I found that tragic , and a victim of China's ignorance . |
