The dorsal spines of Dimetrodon and Spinosaurus were completely different in nearly every aspect, the only common trait is that both are very long. You should also keep in mind that the thermoregulation function is only a theory, a wide-spread theory, but was never proven. In the case of Spinosaurus it is very dubious that it hat a "sail" at all, because it is much more probable that the dorsal spines anchored muscles and sinews and were not only covered by skin. |
