Subject: The real Metashastasaurus
From: Ozraptor4 posted Tue, May 24 2005, 6:24am
Finally got a hold of the Metashastasaurus paper (the *real* Metashastasaurus paper) - boy is this thing *not* the giant Sikanni ichthyosaur (Shonisaurus) - the biggest specimen (the complete and articulated TMP 94.382.2) is an awe-inspiring 3 metres in length.

Oddly enough though, a phylogenetic analysis in the paper keys Meta and Shoni as sister-taxa within the Shastasauridae. Sorta like Meta is to Shoni what Kogia is to Physeter.

A new genus of ichthyosaur from the Late Triassic Pardonet Formation of Britiish Columbia - Elizabeth L Nicholls & Makoto Manabe, Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences; Jun 2001; 38, 6; Academic Research Library pg. 983-1083
