"I love 'The kickback of the 12 gauge knocked Wally backward and out into the drink'. This doesn't happen, maybe in a TV show -'I love Lucy' era. Anyone here ever fire a 12 gauge, not that much recoil, maybe Wally had a bazooka."

well that all depends on what kind of 12 gauge old wally was shooting and just how drunk he was when he pulled the trigger. if his shotgun was rather light and didn't have an adequate recoil pad and if wally was drunk off his ass, then he could easily be knocked backwards by the recoil. more so, if he did not properly hold the shotgun against his shoulder and did not brace himself when he fired it, which is quite likely if'n he's liquored-up.

A 12 gauge has a bit of a kick back, and I can imagine a drunk who is barely balancing himself could fall backwards into the water.

Once I was duck hunting in a boat, and my brother jumped suddenly to get some ducks coming over head. But I was half standing up at the time, and I fell down in the boat. My brother yells "SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!", and I, laying on my back, and seeing big fat ducks flying over me, pointed the gun up, with one hand, and fire... and the butt of the gun came back and smacked me in the face, giving me a black eye.

I know. Not very "safety conscious" to do something like that. But, I was like 21. Young, dumb, and full of .. well never mind.

Never been knocked over by a shotgun, but have had my shoulder bruised up for a few days.
