Subject: "Drunks in Northern Minnesota claimed they killed a river monster"

Why do we have to suffer through this never ending nonsense, gee they were drunk on homemade hillbilly wine (a nice touch). Sloppy guys with stories (maybe) or a bored article writer, read all the flowery prose, who knew that drunks could provide this recall detail.
I love "The kickback of the 12 gauge knocked Wally backward and out into the drink". This doesn't happen, maybe in a TV show -"I love Lucy" era. Anyone here ever fire a 12 gauge, not that much recoil, maybe Wally had a bazooka.

well that all depends on what kind of 12 gauge old wally was shooting and just how drunk he was when he pulled the trigger. if his shotgun was rather light and didn't have an adequate recoil pad and if wally was drunk off his ass, then he could easily be knocked backwards by the recoil. more so, if he did not properly hold the shotgun against his shoulder and did not brace himself when he fired it, which is quite likely if'n he's liquored-up.

A 12 gauge has a bit of a kick back, and I can imagine a drunk who is barely balancing himself could fall backwards into the water.

Once I was duck hunting in a boat, and my brother jumped suddenly to get some ducks coming over head. But I was half standing up at the time, and I fell down in the boat. My brother yells "SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!", and I, laying on my back, and seeing big fat ducks flying over me, pointed the gun up, with one hand, and fire... and the butt of the gun came back and smacked me in the face, giving me a black eye.

I know. Not very "safety conscious" to do something like that. But, I was like 21. Young, dumb, and full of .. well never mind.

Never been knocked over by a shotgun, but have had my shoulder bruised up for a few days.

The fact that they were drunk says it all. Was the river monster pink with elephantine features?

As far as elephantine features, sounds like at least the trunk was involved.

Don't know where the rest was.........

Hey, your cats are very beautiful (pics in profile), and Tyler is extremely unusual! As for the river monster, maybe "Trunko" has resurfaced! :D

Thank you, Ella, and I passed your compliments on to "the boys".

You could be right, maybe it IS Trunko. Or is that what they're calling moonshine these days? {80)

Well, since Trunko was most probably the dead and decomposing body of a basking shark, this creature was probably a figment of the dead and decomposing minds of the drunkards! :D :D

Only if they were really drunk could I see that happening. I figured a 12 gauge when I was tiny, like 110 pounds, and didn't come close to falling over. Didn't even step back. What gets me is why were they firing guns that drunk? Lucky they didn't shoot each other or some innocent person.

They were firing guns that drunk because they were drunkards! (Alcoholics, no doubt.) It's a very common occurrence here in Texas....

Sadly, true a lot of places. So, what is it that they claim to have killed? I didn't see a link anywhere.

Me either, no link--maybe they were too drunk to even give a description and just said "a monster". :D

That I can believe. Was hoping for a link for a good laugh. Ah, well.
