I was think that wasn't cryptozoology about known animals in wrong places too? C'se there have been several kangaroo sightings here in Finland. And Kangaroos should only live in Australia, wich is exactly on the other side of the earth. weird but interesting.

Strange how kangaroos & wallabees seem to account for an increasing proportion of oop animal sightings, this has been the case in the UK too. Wallabees especially seem to be very adaptable to other non-native countries. Some kangaroo reports are therefore likely to be wallabees, many folk are truly surprised by the size of a real kangaroo.

Yep, there have been atleast two sightings of the kangaroo. Here is a article of it kenguru The article is in Finnish, so only me and 2012 can understand it. (and the picture isn't from this case)

First sighting was two months ago from a woman and her daughter. They were sure they saw a kangaroo. There were other people around too. The second sighting was made lately. Two men saw kangaroo jumping across the road. People now are making jokes about the ones who claims to saw a kangaroo/kangaroo like animal. And the men regret they ever spoke about it.

There are few kangaroos in Finland, in two Zoo's, but there havent been reported escapes. Maybe someone has somehow brought one or more from somewhere? The zoologists have said that kangaroos could survive in Finnish climate, but they would have had troubles in finding food. So someone must have fed them, or the kangaroos have found a way to find food from the snow. Now, on the spring time there is lots of food to eat, but on March, when the first sighting was made, there is only snow, and no plants to eat.

I tell when I hear more about this, if I ever will. C'se there were lion reports here few years ago too.. :)

Hi Yazoo.
There have been some kangaroo-sightings here in Sweden as well.At least lead to the capture of the animal, and identifying the owner.More mysterius however is the increasing cases of racoons, with at least two that been shot (and one was stuffed and put on display) the last ten years. The list of other odd animals on the loose here include a huge monitor-lizard(never captured),a few "bigfoot" sightings, and a few "unclassifieds" that maybe rather belongs to forteana than cryptozoology.I remember the Finnish lions, and it would be interesting to hear more about what is going on in Finland.

No, nothing is going on in Finland, exept for the kangaroo (wich is rather a joke here than a thing to be explored) No rumors of any cryptids, no one even knows what is cryptozoology. I've started wandering in the forests, and I hope that one day I would even see an animal. lol. :)

But I would like to hear more about the Swedish cryptids. Expecially about the lizard and "bigfoot" sightings. And about the lake monsters too. If u could share your information here, or send me e-mail or something? Maybe rather here so that everyone can read.

Has anyone heard about any cryptids here in the scandinavia area? Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark??

Tack och hejdå. :)

Hi.
Well, its not a very popular subject here either, parapsychology and ufology is a far bigger. But with a bit of patience, things start pop up.Old archives can give real nuggets sometimes, like sea-serpent sightings.A good journal, that holds a very high scientific standard,is Ufo Aktuellt, the journal for UFO-Sverige.In every issue there is a forteana-corner,that often is cryptozoological. And these articles often have a slant towards local stuff or in neigbouring countries. The article about sea-serpents told many interesting things about sightings in the Baltic sea.And the "wildman" article mentioned the capture of a hairy "wildman" in Sweden some centuries ago.Check out the Finnish Ufo-organisations,who knows, they may have contacts with other Finnish crypto-fans.
The monitor lizard was some years back,it was never captured, but seen repeatedly during one summer. One man was even bitten by it.Undoubtly this was someones escaped pet,and it probably died the following fall.It was never heard of again after that one summer. The "bigfoot" sightings have been very local,in the northen parts.A handful of sightings, and then silence. At least the local papers and TV-stations reported it,so it wasn´t kept quiet about. The lake-monsters are the most common.Today the Storsjö-monster is known even abroad, and still regulary seen. But there are dozens of other lakes who also is said to have monsters living there. Both to the north and to the south. The types vary to some extent, but is generally described as a humped snakelike type,a longnecked type,or a giant fish. And to this one can add the black jellyfish-like "something" thats been seen in a lake in Skåne,or the dragonlike monster that was seen on land close to a pond in Dalarna.
Well, that was a bit about whats happening here so far,but in time more will surface I´m sure.

u mean like krakens,
lindorm: A dragon-like animal sighted in scandinavia

and sweden:
Storsjoodjuret - A lake animal sighted in central Sweden. Given the nickname Storsie, this animal can be up to 39 feet in length, having a long neck, horse-like head, and large eyes. Some witnesses say the monster has feet, which discounts the possibility of the animal being a plesiosaur. It may, however, represent a living sauropod similar to Mokele-mbembe.

Hi.
A lindorm is simply either a synonym to dragon in folklore,or a beign in fairytales. But there is no sightings of lindorms today, just as there are no sightings of giants anymore. And a sauropod in Storsjön,HIGHLY unlikely considered the depth of the lake,as well as that the winter makes is covered in ice to some extent. No land reports either, and sauropods clearly spent lots of time on land. Also,a city,Östersund, lies by it,and there are no reports of sauropods there. Most reports I´ve heard speak about a fishlike creature, with gills and all.

Over here (Northern Ireland) i read in the newspaper that a pack of wolves (suposidly driven to extension before the 1900s) were spotted chasing a deer through agricultural fields. Very strange, i havent even seen a deer here never mind a wolf! Before a lion and a puma have been spotted but all these cases are due to owners and collectors releasing the animals into the wild, where they somehow manage to survive, im sure this could well be the explaination for many animals being in the wrong place.
