Wouldn't it be fun to listen in to the phone call to their insurance company to file a claim, afterall, the cops did not believe it at first. Lucky elephant too, that will be quite the story to pass along to family for all concerned.

We always told this joke in Kansas and Oklahoma:

Why are there those hills alongside the freeway?

To keep elephants off the road.

I've never seen one on the road!

See how well they work?

The only thing that would have made this even more ironic would be if the truck that had stuck it had been carrying pink paint ...

Or had been the truck they were trying to load the elephant onto when it decided to make a break for it.

Can you imagine? "Oops, the good news - we found the elephant. The bad news - we're gonna need a tow truck."
