There are other possibilities, which are less likely. For instance, some drugs can cause skin infections and alopecia. But I can't think of any that would be prescribed to bears for any reason. Another possibility would be maybe a food ingredient or contaminant, but once again, that seems far less likely than mange. In fact, I'm starting to think the werewolf sightings are unknown bald variety of bears that are bipedal.
