Subject: really tired of all the hoaxes
From: c_o_s_a posted Tue, Oct 27 2009, 4:32pm
first off i'm not on this site to be rude, or to even begin to try to tell everyone "I KNOW MORE THAN YOU" I don't, infact i'm a beginner compaired to some of the cryptozoologists that I've met and spent time researching with. However, I will say this, in my time of trying to discover what the truth behind all this is, I have learned that people will do just about anything to be noticed. Including photoshop pictures of bigfoot, nessie and other cryptids. I've even come in contact with a man that reported that his cattle were being attacked by bigfoot, with their blood sucked dry and two large punture wounds in the neck, someone's getting their cryptids confused. I'm not an expect on marine biology, but I have studied sharks and honestly what people are calling megamouths are way to small, there's a reason for the name MEGA mouth, just like there was a reason for the name Gigantapithicus. These sharks are huge, much larger than your biggest great white, if you'll look at the photo in the gallery and then at the people's feet, you'll notice it looks like a normal size shark. at least to me, though it's only my statement and can be taken with a grain of salt. Again I am not an expect but why post pictures of photoshoped bigfoots? shouldn't that and the other drawings be under it's own catergory of maybe fan art? Forgive me if it sounds like i'm critizing, i'm not. But why post something that you already know isn't real? it's pointles unless you think you can honestly fool someone into believing that this 'edited' photograph is the real thing, which any die-hard crypto lover could spot a fake a mile away. I'm sure most of you on here are smart enough to know a fake from a real peiece of evidence. Those that spend time hunting, that buy gear and take time to go and TRY to find these creatures, don't get enough credit, not when there are people posting fake photos that they 'so excellently' made in photoshop when others are honestly trying to find out the truth. like it or not people it's like all the other things in this world, people want fame, and they think if they find a monster they can get it. In closing my idea of being a cryptozoologist is different than what others would think, I believe you don't have to have a degree to be one, honestly, if your out there looking for the truth, and aren't trying to hoax your way into a newpaper or the latest tv bigfoot show, you're a crypto in my book.- happy hunting

While I agree with your basic contention, I just like to say that more people are likely to read your post if you put paragraphs in. It makes it easier on the eyes, especially for those of us who need glasses. Oh, and welcome to the site.

Cryptozoology will ALWAYS be host to hoaxers, that's just the way it is.

Indeed. It's part of human nature to pull pranks and stage hoaxes. It's the reaction of the masses that the pranksters look for. Just look at that movie "Jackass." Most people in their sound mind would not do some of the things that those jokers do. They might have had different specific reasons for doing what they did (money, fame, boredom), but bottom line is it was all about the reaction of those watching the movie. I could dig deeper, but I think this is enough for now.

so you joined the site just to post a big block of text made out of complaints? interesting choice.

no one but hoaxers likes hoaxes. it's sad, but some people will always be gullible, ignorant, mentally ill/impaired, emotionally motivated to believe even admitted hoaxes, etc. and still believe hoaxes, let's try not to be them. -i think those were your points?

oh, wait, i think i forgot your implication that this site is full of false pics and the stupid, pointless people behind them...... browse around a bit more, you will find that our skeptics and rational realists debunk pretty much every fake pic, and quickly too.

sorry, but this type of first-ever post, the "everything annoys me and people are so darn stupid!" isn't really the best way to make a positive first impression.

The only way you're ever going to see nonexistent creatures is through costumes, photoshop or art.

The most substantial the most popular cryptids have ever been has been through hoaxes.

You can either get used to it, or stop looking.
