I'm writing this down because no one will believe me
Looking up through the leaves of the forest I could tell the day was going to be a scorcher, stopping for one moment looking around through the darkness of the trees .I could tell this forest got somewhat deeper before id end up where I wanted to be, a waterfall at the far end of the forest, it might have been safer to just go round the outside but I decided that a walk through would be far better.
I started off again, trudging through the dirt, dry leaves under my feet crackling as they got stepped on. A loud CRACK suddenly startled me, stoping dead in my tracks looking behind me straining to see anything but deciding it was nothing and continuing my hike. About 5 minutes later I felt a presence behind me and then a foul smell started to waft toward my way, as if I was downwind of a dead animal. I turned around expecting to see a carcass of some form I might have missed seeing. Instead my heart leapt into my throat as a huge animal stood before me, the last thing I remember thinking was 'OMG', right before he raised his arm and hit me with a mighty strong blow to the head.
A while later I awoke, I realised I was being dragged by something, as my vision became clearer I saw what it was pulling me along and started to struggle and scream, its grip around my leg only became firmer. All of a sudden it stopped n dropped me, I sat up and my heart jumped into my throat, standing right in front of me were two more of these things, one little one and another slightly smaller than the one that had dragged me here. I concluded they must be a male and female with a small child, I started backing up slowly, still on the ground, the big one turned and growled at me, I froze instantly. The smallest one seemed curious about me, it crept up slowly and reached out its hand, my heart was beating franticly but I was still in awe watching this small one. I reached out my hand and touched the little ones hand, keeping an eye on the parents, the youngster dropped a rock into my hand.
I stood up watching the three of them wearily. The smallest was easily as tall as me, as I looked at it I noticed its eyes were like that of a bear, dark and sad looking, but at the same time..able to see right through me. Taking a small step towards it, it seemed to get spooked, ran back to its mother and hid behind her. The three of them then turned round and walked into the deepest part of the forest from what I could see. I looked around and then noticed the largest one watching me, I took a few small steps towards him and he turned, walked a few steps and looked for me again, it seemed he wanted me to follow.
I followed behind them for what seemed hours, it was dusk by the time they stopped at a place buried deeply in the woods, the forest floor was littered with broken branches and leaves. There's a cave like structure to one side with patterns on it. It struck me this must be where they sleep, I must be in its home. I touched the side of my face, it was tender where id been hit by the large one, I slid down next to a tree, still scared but slightly less than before, watching them. The smallest one sauntered over to me and staying his distance held out his hand which had a piece of fruit in it. I took it softly from its hand and bit into it watching my new mammal friend. I stayed there that night not moving from my tree, just watching them. Sometime during the night I fell asleep, when I woke at dawn I felt a body next to mine, the smallest one was sitting by me, a small pile of fruit at its feet.
After carefully watching the family of 3 for a few hours, I've seen that the larger one, most likely the father, goes off for an hour at a time to collect fruit, sticks, leaves and rocks, bring them back to where I was and set them down in piles, the rocks seemed to be for the smallest one to play with, fruit for food and the leaves and sticks seemed to be for bedding. The larger one liked putting sticks set up against a tree, kind of like a marking, a sign. I got up from my tree and walked around a little bit today, they don't seem to mind.
I haven't written anything for 2 days now, I've been with my new friends. I seem to have gained their trust by not running off, the smallest one sleeps with me at night, it took a while to get over the smell, but now it doesn't phase me. The parent's watch me carefully while the smaller one teaches me things, yesterday it taught me how to make a spark by hitting two rocks together, quite smart these animals are. I even joined them on a few outings, it seems to me like they are looking for a new place to move to. I can't blame them, my mother would kill me if I left my place like this. I'm going to stay with them, they seem to like me, but I'm worried about my family though, I've been missing for 4 days now almost 5.
Something's happening, the mother has called the small one and is moving away, the father holds out his hand looking in my direction, my signal to come with him. I saunter up to him and look up, trying to remember what my mother used to call these funny looking animals, Humans I think they were called. They seem primitive, id seen funny drawings inside their cave house. I put my hairy hand in his and walk by his side as he reaches with his hand, pats my head and says in a funny language "Good Sasquatch". |
