Investigation of Bearwolf Sighting in Washington County Wisconsin
Photo of trail where I saw the "wavy air" that didnt show up in the picture. This photo is typical of wooded areas of Washington County.
Hi Guys,

On Friday Nov. 17th I went with my friend, fellow investigator and author Linda Godfrey, to Washington County in Wisconsin to investigate the area where the "Bearwolf" was seen.
For lack of a better word I will refer to the animal as a Bearwolf.
The sighting we were focusing on was the from the man who worked for the city picking up roadkill. He saw the animal as it took a deer carcass out of the back of his pickup truck. This happened on hw 167 (I think, I go by the sign that points "holy hill that a-way :) just before Troll Hill Road. This is less then a mile from Holy Hill. For those of you not from Wisconsin, Holy Hill is a huge church and Monastery that sits atop a big hill and can be seen for miles around. It's located in an area of Wisconsin called the Kettle Moraine. This is an area of small hills and valleys, the hills are the moraine and the valleys are the kettles. Created when glaziers passed through Wisconsin during the last ice age. Also known for it's weird occurrences.
We met the Chanel 12 news team at Holy Hill at around 11:00 am. Began the investigation on a plot of private land east of Troll Hill rd which runs parallel with the high way.
We had permission to be on this land with the news team.
There is an abandoned farm on this land. A small decapitated cabin, a barn that is barely standing and an outhouse. There was no snow on the ground at this time, and we searched for foot prints or evidence of any large animal having been there. Saw tons and tons of deer tracks, some scat that looked canine, most likely Coyote and a flat roadkill possum that some animal grabbed and took up into the upstairs of the barn.
We also met up with to local investigators who had two nights previous set up motion cameras in the area with Linda and the witness. The cameras later showed nothing but allot of deer and a raccoon.
The news team took the local investigators across the high way to interview them next to a corn field. Linda and I were standing next to her car. Linda needed a hat as it was chilly and windy. As we waited to cross the h.w. I heard a loud snorting sound. It was right behind us, where we just were by the farm! Although I really wanted the sound to have been made by the "bearwolf", I have to admit the obvious. It was deer rutting season, and was most likely a deer sniffing the air to see if us humans had moved on...
We said our good byes to the news team and went on our way. We checked out a tree where this guy had hung himself. People see an image of him swinging from a rope. I didn't see anyone swinging from a rope but I did see an anomalies "wavy air" thingy along the trail that ran next to the tree. Just like what you see in the summer when the sun heats the pavement and the wavy air comes off of it. I took a photo of it with my digital but it didn't show up in the picture.
We left there and headed towards Shalom Wild Life Refuge. There was recently a sighting of a deer sized canine there. Also of note there are Indian mounds in the refuge. Unfortunately no deer sized canine and the park was closed for the season. We got out of our cars and made a feeble attempt to hike up the very long road and into the park, but it was getting dark, was on the verge of deer hunting season and it was very cold. We decided to wait till spring for this park and got back into the car. Headed back to Holly Hill.
We parked in the dark on Troll Hill Road and sat for a little while. A small Doe walked Right In Front of Our Car!!! I grabbed my cameras for that Kodak moment only to find out neither one of them will shoot in the dark! My 35 mm just went "bzzzshhh bzzzshhh" as it tried to focus and my digital was just a black screen.
We saw so many deer! A couple of bucks too! A couple of farm cats and several hawks...but no bearwolf or Wisconsin Beast.
It wasn't a total loss, as I discovered my cameras wont take photos in the dark. Good thing, because if the animal did make an appearance I would have had two cameras and no photos to show for it.
If this animal is like any other large wild animal in Wisconsin, it must have a wide range to forage. A cougar has about a 30-50 mile range. I suspect this bearwolf critter was long gone by the time we got there to look for it.

Until next time, keep you cameras on the ready!!
